[Walter turns on the video for the journal, sets it up and then moves back, sitting down on a chair in front of it. He's wear a lab coat over his usual checkered shirt and sweater cardigan combo and looks quite gleeful, gesturing toward the camera with a welcoming motion.]

Fellow denizens of Luceti! My name is Walter Bishop and I come to you with a unique request.

I would like to take a tissue and wing sample from every person in the compound - a simple test, really, very quick, not at all painful [Says the man who can tolerate electroshock therapy with a smile] - in order to help the scientists of our great community better understand the makeup of this universe.

Should you and several of your companions be from the same world, it would be most helpful if one or all could donate, although one should suffice if anyone is a tad squeamish.

I will be taking the samples this afternoon in the plaza.

Oh! And hot cocoa will be provided for compensation of course. I'm no madman.

This afternoon, starting at 1pm. Any and all volunteers are welcome! Those who don't wish to volunteer, don't worry - I'm sure I can find you somehow, yes?

[Action: Plaza, 1PM]
[As promised, Walter is bundled up in warmer clothes at the plaza with a little table of lab equipment and a rather large cooler that holds several Thermoses of hot cocoa. There are even little marshmallows for people who want them.]

According to descriptions of the other inmates, the stars are false, those seen beyond the barrier even more confusing. [He rubs his right hand with his left, holding it close to his chest. He used to like stargazing. Now none of it was comforting. He couldn't identify anything and it made this place seem even more fantastical. He couldn't even be sure if he was really here or if this was just some extended fantasy, a slip back into delusions brought on by too long under the drugs needed to fetch Olivia. What if he had never come back?

This could very well be an elaborate fantasy made by his mind to escape the reality of being sent back to St. Clair's.]

B-but a frequency scanner? How?

That is the claim, though I have yet to personally test this theory. There could be many reasons why these stars do not function under normal conditions.

[But that was a whole other can of worm.]

I can re calibrate my tricorder to do this. Will you assist me? [Because it would keep Walter busy.]

Haven't you been to space yet? [Walter hasn't either, but he SO wants to go. He just assumed Spock would because, well, Spock.] Do you want to go? Perhaps we can go together after--

[OH MY GOD, SUDDEN GLEE]

Re-calibrating your tricorder? Yes! That would be a most excellent endeavor!

[Spock looked satisfied with that answer.] Very well. Then shall I help you pack up? Or do you wish to carry on handing out free hot chocolate?

[Anything to dissuade mutilation.]

Oh, but I can't just leave - I told the others I would be here and some have volunteered their samples already. It would unfair to deprive the others.

We can use the samples already given to recalibrate my tricorder.

[Others? Wait.. people actually volunteered for this?]
Who are you expecting?

A little boy with spiky hair and a grumpy man with red eyes. Others, too, I think, but I'm not entirely certain.

Do you mind if I stay here and witness this? [Spock just wants to make sure everything remains sanitary... and hopefully Walter isn't just yanking out the feathers.]

As long as you don't scare anyone off.

[He sits down and takes out a thermos of cocoa, a new bag of marshmallows and two empty mugs, holding them up.]

No, thank you. Chocolate has a causes a bad reaction in Vulcans.

[Oh... maybe he should have kept that to himself.]

An adverse reaction....? In your entire species? How so?

The closest comparison I have is that chocolate does to Vulcans, what alcohol does to humans.

[The big secret is out. Spock blushes green.]

Fascinating...! Is it due to the chemical composition or simply that Vulcans do not have a substance akin to chocolate on their own world?

Both, actually. [Spock couldn't help but quirk an eyebrow at the word 'fascinating'... is that what it sounded like?]

Because of the lack of exposure, the chemical reaction is actually quite severe... You could almost call it a low tolerance.

So it is that your bodies are incapable of processing the chocolate - as with some whose bodies are genetically not inclined to processing alcohol. That truly is fascinating.... At first glance, you seem very close to human in structure at least. I wonder how you differ on the inside.

[Spock of Spock's eyebrows raise into his hairline. It sounded as if Walter wanted to cut into him.]

I assure you, I am quite physiologically different on the inside...

Oh? But how? Do you have two hearts? A different vascular system? Nervous system?

There are several important differences... Due to my home planet's high density, Vulcan skeletal structure is much heavier than humans. Our strength as well measures about three times higher than that of the average human male.
Our blood is copper based instead of iron, and my heart is located here...[Spock points to his side... But he's still looking warily at Walter, wondering if he should walk away before the man decided that cutting into him was a priority.]

[NOTE TAKING. Walter whips out a notebook and starts writing down what Spock is saying, noting the site of his heart and the composition of his blood. Copper based.... Now that is a sample he wants more than anything.]

You wouldn't be opposed to giving a small sample of your blood would you? It could help me immensely in my understanding of how this enclosure and this world can make such biochemically diverse individuals co-exist without any harmful side effects.

[Spock is silent for a moment, giving this some actual consideration.]

On one condition... you can take a sample as long as it is taken in a more sanitized space.
Deal?

[He doesn't see what sanitized space has to do with it when his instruments are clean, but he acquiesces, nodding.]

Of course. Your lab, later tonight?

Of course. I will see you there.

[Spock bows his head and walks off in a hurry. Walter certainly was an interesting human.]
