Happy Fireworks Day!!

[Walter is yelling and he doesn't care. This day celebrates with one of the most awesome chemistry achievements ever and he's going to have fun.

He sets the journal down and gleefully runs back a few meters until he's in the middle of the Flame Building rooftop where he's set up a sizeable display of fireworks hobbled together from different things, mixed in with ones he's found at the stores leading up to today.

He also has no cares to give that it's just past 7AM on July 4th. Whatever, losers, get out of bed.

He lights a large cylinder and runs off camera until it erupts sparks and shoots lines of brightly colored fire into the air accompanied by booming noises.]

Haha!! Excellent! I knew it would work!

[Walter runs back and speaks excitedly at the book, even if the camera is focused on the firework erupting.]

I'm making hot dogs on the roof! Everyone come get some! And come blow things up with me. Even if you're not American, this holiday is good fun,

Oh! I'm on the Flame Building, but I shouldn't be hard to find.

[There's another large boom and he jumps, then laughs as sparks shoot across the rooftop toward him.]

Grinding up the discarded parts of meat that don't make it onto the shelves, cuttings and other bits that no one normally wants to swallow. That said, I made these with different ingredients than normal, but they should be nevertheless quite delicious.

Also.

[He clears his throat.]

Am I high right now? I can never be certain if my latest test batch is working.

[He nods eagerly and leaves the crinkling bag and bowl aside before turning to watch grilling action from enough of a distance as not to get in the way of Walter's elbows. A grillmaster needs his space! It's especially mesmerizing considering how hungry he is.

He jams his hands into his pockets.]

So y'made your own, huh? [That's awesome in his book, especially since he's so used to eating things from cans and boxes which he knows aren't as good as the real thing. But attempting to make anything from scratch would be a challenge without burning something, at least for him. Even ketchup, somehow. He just knows he'd find a way to mess up.] What goes in it? Tomato paste an' a bit a' sugar, right?

The only way to ensure quality, my boy!

And if you want to make it taste bland, that's all you put in it. Ground tomatoes, water, spices and herbs, various powders and vinegar, plus a little extra if you're smart about it. Would you like a taste?

[Very good. He's not hoping there won't be any fires, but that no one will be hurt by the fires.]

I have seen the grill.

[So literal.]

Of course, humans do not usually consume all of the animals they feed upon. Or perhaps they do... given your explanation.

[It was all very complicated to him. Though he'd enjoyed many different kinds if cuisine in Luceti, sometimes he was thankful he didn't have to eat.

Now there was another source of confusion though.]

High? Well, I suppose you must be if you are on the roof. Why do you need to test something to know that?

[A little extra?]

Uh, sure! [Now what's he to put it on?]

[He cracks a thin-lipped smile, cocking his head at the applause. It's a curious greeting, one he decides is more likely an attempt at mockery than anything else, and he fixes Walter an appraising look, filing details away.]

I have taken dinner already... [he calmly raises a hand as if to silence him] ...and naught but the very freshest of meat shall do.

[He lets his arm drop to his side and pauses, noting those present at the gathering. It's manageable now, but he'll vanish (and find a decent vantage point to watch, maybe) before the rooftop becomes too crowded.]

Do tell me more of your fireworks, won't you?

I shall be over there after I've dressed properly. I am in favor of any holiday that involves explosions, really. [Finally, humans do something right.]

[So he'll be over in about an hour...]

[Welp, the dreams Sokka had of "Fireworks Day" are completely dashed.]

Oh I see. That's... a little less exciting and imaginative than I was thinking. We mainly have fireworks for a few national festivals, not to mention to commemorate the ends of major wars. So I guess it's pretty similar. Though maybe I'll have to convince the United Republic to celebrate their newfound independence with fireworks when... if I get back.

I'm here to make sure you don't kill anyone. Fire is not a toy.

[He then glances over at the grill.]

... But I guess I could try one.

You mean "modern" humans. Technically, there are several cultures in the past to whom not consuming or using the entirety of the animal was considered sacrilege.

And no, no, I mean high, in an altered state of consciousness. I have to test because the natural ingredients are unavailable here.

You most certainly need to convince them. Fireworks should always be used in celebrations! It makes it much better.

I hardly think anyone is going to die, I'm being quite safe.

[Aside from that earlier misfire, but he'd tested the fuses and such since so there was no longer warrant for concern.

He motioned the boy over.]

Then come closer and grab a bun! I wasn't able to make them myself, unfortunately, but the hot dogs themselves and the ketchup are certain to be exquisite.

[YEEEEAAAAAAH GOD BRO.

And awesome. Walter is going to put extra hot dogs and extra fireworks out for Loki then.]

Wonderful! We'll be waiting!

[When Mickey arrives, Walter is at the grill and he has a sizeable set-up of fireworks in the middle of the roof, far enough away from where people are to ensure their safety.]

Mickey! Hello!

Oh, you like your meat raw? I suppose that's certainly doable, although I'd have to ask down for steaks.

[Walter shrugs a little and then sets his barbeque fork down to go tend to the fireworks. He loves food almost as much as he loves science, but science will always, always win. He motions to the set-up, a variety of tubes and fuses pointed toward the sky.]

It took some jerry-rigging, but I managed to create several of my own along with those I found at the store. September said it was a little dangerous, but it worked out just fine.

[Good ketchup, you can eat on its own.

He goes over to the table and picks up a spoon, taking half a spoonful and holding it out to the man.]

Here, try.

No, no, I mean, come here! [He laughs and puts his utensils down, running over to get September.] You can't enjoy a barbeque from so far away. This is your first one, isn't it?

Hiya, Doc!

[He then takes a whiff...]

Mmm, somethin' smells great!

Homemade hot dogs and handmade ketchup! Hot dogs are the perfect grilling food, did you know that?

[He raises one off the grill for Mickey to see.]

The act of grilling brings out the perfect flavors of the meat.

[Don't mind if he does! He takes the offered spoon, curiously sampling the ketchup and smacking his lips.] ...Aw man! [He's beaming before long and offering all the approval a man could ever want.] This is great! Ain't ever thought ketchup could be so good!

[Mickey licks his lips... and his stomach may start to gurgle.]

Fireworks, friends and food... can't think of a better combo!

[Iroh has a bit of a bemused expression on his face when he arrives. The holiday had him curious if nothing else]
